Officers from the Greenwich Police Department conducted a traffic stop on West Putnam Avenue at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, when the drivers committed a violation. During that stop, police said that they were given probable cause to search the vehicle and its occupants.
One of the passengers, Greenwich resident David Giacomara, attempted to deceive officers when he was questioned, offering a false name. According to police, they’ve had numerous previous encounters with Giacomara, and officers at the scene were able to positively identify him.
During the search, Giacomara was found to be in possession of several Suboxone sublingual films without a prescription. He was also in possession of several used hypodermic needles, which he said were used to inject heroin. Giacomara also had a 4.5-inch “buck” knife that he had “no reasonable excuse for possessing.”
Giacomara, 24 was arrested and charged with criminal possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle and interfering with an officer. Following his arraignment, Giacomara was released and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Nov. 12 to answer the charges.
